She is a lovely warm person who loves to spend time with her family, we hope you will all welcome her and say hello if you happen to visit the clinic on Fridays.

TIPS FOR A HEALTHY BACK:

With the darker nights and colder weather now upon us, the next few months will be difficult for many, probably spending more time indoors, being less active, but this can have a negative impact on the health of your back, so if you would like a few tips on how to keep yourself strong during the winter months then read on:

Work Your Muscles. If you want to have a strong back, then you must exercise your entire body, sorry there is no quick solution! Your bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons all work as part of a kinetic chain, they are not independent of each other, therefore you need regular exercise to maintain a strong core, strong glutes, and strong leg muscles, because these all work to keep your spine in the correct place. Exercise such as weight training, swimming, yoga, or walking, are all great ways to keep your body strong, but it is up to you to try and find an exercise you enjoy, because if you don’t, then you are less likely to be consistent in your routine going forward into 2023, and with exercise consistency is the key.
Now you don’t necessarily need to have expensive equipment or buy a gym membership, there are many exercise routines you can do in your own home, you just need to get started……so why wait until the New Year to make your resolution? Get ahead of the game now, create those good exercise habits, and head into 2023 as a healthier version of you.

Posture, Posture, PostureThis is so important I wrote it 3 times.
Over many years as a Chiropractor, without a doubt postural imbalance is one of the main issues we see in our practice every day. People just do not realise how their posture can affect other areas of the body, you just need to look around to see someone slouching, which places alot of stress on the spine from the neck to the lower back, which then affects the surrounding soft tissue structures, compressing your internal organs, such as heart, lungs and digestive system.
So next time you are standing, walking, sitting at a desk, or just lounging on the sofa, you should focus on maintaining a good posture, make sure to keep your head up so you are looking forward, not downwards, pull your shoulders back to engage those upper back muscles. Try to maintain a slight curve in your lower back to keep the pelvis in a neutral position, adjust any computer screens to the correct height, make sure you have a lumbar support in your chair, you should also schedule regular breaks to avoid staying in one position for too long, stand up and stretch your spine. If you have time then stretch your whole body.

Lift ProperlyHow many of people reading this go for their weekly shopping, buy too much, then arrive home in a hurry and decide to take all the shopping bags at once? Just to avoid walking back to the car a 2nd time? I’m sure it’s not only me! These are the times when you pay very little attention to your lifting technique, which can put stress on the lower back. I’m sure you don’t think about bending at the knees, keeping your back straight, you just want to get in the house quickly. But this is exactly the time to engage the core, avoid leaning and lifting heavy items away from your body, don’t carry a heavy handbag or rucksack over one shoulder, try to evenly distribute the weight. And as we discussed in the previous section, make sure to work the muscles to keep you strong and maintain good posture.

If your Back hurts…. then call the clinic or book onlineDon’t ignore back pain. If you feel pain with certain activities or something seems to aggravate your back, then stop, unless you are sure this is not doing you any more harm. Make an appointment with your chiropractor who will be able to assess your issues and then advise you the best way to help.

I hope you find these tips helpful; I know it’s alot to think about, but better to think about it now, look at the things you know should be improved, then do something about it, your body will thank you.
