Can I afford to be unhealthy?

Spine Check

If the past 2 years has shown us anything, it just how fragile our health can be? I can imagine you have wondered ‘Would I be healthy enough to fight it’? Some of us have used this time to change our diets and lifestyles in a positive way, others might have found it more difficult and had increased stress, eating unhealthy foods, drinking too much, not exercising, which can all have a negative effect on our bodies.

In terms of our health, it can take months, even years, for symptoms to appear due to poor lifestyle choices. I can imagine at some point we have all looked in the mirror and not been happy with what we see? Then make the decision to do some drastic changes, however, I’m certain this did not last more than a few days or weeks if you were lucky?! It would be better to look at this as a journey rather than a short-term fix. You should aim to start with small changes, gradually, day by day, week by week, but importantly don’t beat yourself up if you divert from this plan and eat something you shouldn’t, or don’t exercise for a few days. Just visualize your end goal, imagine how you will look and feel in a few months, or even years ahead…then make these small changes a daily habit, over time you will reap the long-term benefits, remember that being healthy and then maintaining good health is a process, it is not just an event.

Therefore, this begs the question ‘Can I afford to be unhealthy? As the Dalai lama said:

‘Man, Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health’

How much does it really cost to change your diet, take more exercise, go for a walk a few days per week, meditate, spend time reading something positive, have your spine checked, get a massage….is it really that expensive? A lot of people spend a lifetime not taking care of themselves, but when they realise they have some issues, then they decide to do everything they can to regain their health.

If you asked someone, what is their definition of health, you will get a multitude of different answers, ranging from just feeling good each day, not being overweight, being able to play a round of golf or run 10k, but for some people all they want is to be able to walk without pain or be able to put on a pair of shoes without help, everyone has their own version of health.

Here at Wellbeing Chiropractic Health Centre, we believe that everyone has a responsibility for their own health, obviously some people have some significant health issues, for them it is about finding a realistic goal and aiming to achieve their own vision, but the most important part in all of this is to start to DO IT, you can always put it off until tomorrow, but why not start today?
